Winter & Spring Programming for Children
The library has a variety of fun activities planned this winter and spring for children going into 5th grade and younger. A flyer listing all of our programs and storytimes from January through May will soon be available at both libray locations. Storytimes
WINTER/SPRING PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES
During the winter and spring the Olathe Public Library offers preschool storytimes for 3, 4 and 5 year olds at both library locations. Winter/spring storytimes run from January 24 through April 26. Registration begins on Tuesday, January 3. For more information and the complete schedule of times and locations, click here.
We also offer Evening Storytime at the Library on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Indian Creek Branch. The stories will be geared to 3, 4 and 5 year olds, but all ages are welcome. No registration is required for the evening storytimes. For more intormation and the complete schedule, click here.
NOTE: There will be no storytimes during spring break, March 12 - 16.
TIme for Two is a one-on-one storytime for 2 year olds with a caring adult. During the winter and spring the library will offer two six-week sessions. Beginning on January 27 and running through March 2, we will offer a six-week session at the Main Library. Registration for the Main session begins on Tuesday, January 3. Beginning March 23 and running through April 27, we will offer a six-week session at the Indian Creek Branch. Registration for the Indian Creek sessions begins on Tuesday, March 6. Rhyme Time is an interactive language-enrichment program for children aged 12 to 24 months with a caring adult. Rhyme Time is offered at both library locations. During the winter the sessions run from January 23 through February 29 During the spring the sessions run from March 19 through April 25. Come help us celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday with a wacky assortment of crafts and games suitable for the whole family, followed by birthday cake! Registration is required and begins on Monday, February 20.

Are you a kid in kindergarten through 5th grade who loves building with LEGO bricks? Be a part of our new monthly afterschool LEGO Club! Arrive at 4:30 p.m., have a snack while you hear about that month's theme, and then have fun building with bricks provided by the library. There will even be a show-and-tell session at the end of the meeting, if time allows. Each session will last about an hour. Registration is required for each individual club meeting. Test your creativity and puzzle solving skills by making one of these simple Chinese puzzle sets, and then use the seven pieces to attempt to reconstruct a variety of puzzling pictures. Registration is required and begins on Monday, March 12.
LET'S LEARN SPANISH FOR PRESCHOOLERS - For ages 4 & 5
Wednesdays, April 4, 11 & 18 - Registration begins Wednesday, March 21

During this three-week program listen to stories and learn some basic Spanish phrases. Sessions will last 30 - 45 minutes. Children will attend by themselves. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, March 21.

LEGO DESIGN CONTEST - For K - 5th grade

LEGO fans, make your own creation from LEGO bricks (or compatible bricks) and enter it into our LEGO Design Contest for kids. Drop off your creation from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. Our judges will view the entries, then the public will be invited to view and vote for their favorite from 2:00 - 3:45 p.m. Come back for the Awards Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. where you could win a Barnes & Noble gift card and a chance to have your creation on display at the library! More information will be available at the library and on the library's website beginning March 19. (This contest is not sponsored or endorsed by LEGO or Barnes & Noble.). HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM: THE SCIENCE OF PAPER AIRPLANES - For ages 6 - 11

Lift, gravity, thrust and drag, what do these have to do with making a great paper airplane? Join us as we experiment with paper airplane designs and learn a little bit about the science of flight as we test our creations. Registration is required and begins on Monday, April 9.

Looking for something different to read during Children's Book Week? Just bring 1 or 2 gently read books to the Main Library anytime on this date and swap for a new read! The book swap is for 5th graders and younger.
This program is designed for parents to read aloud to their elementary-aged children. To participate in the Family Read-Aloud Club, just stop by the Children's Reference Desk and we'll get you started!
